Jan35/35
Hey all…so yeeeaahhh….Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy New Years, and all the Jazz. I’m a bad blogger, I s’pose. I mean I have a whole week off from work, tons to write about regarding the holidays, and yet here it is Jan. 6th and this post isn’t even about all that. lol. It gets to the point where it seems like it’s a little late to start talking about Santa and show pictures of presents and lights, ya know.
Anyway….
I am 35 weeks today and that also makes me 35 days until my due date. Yikes. I am muy uncomfortable and ready to have this little guy out. No, not mentally or even materially ready…but physically…yes sir.
Baby:
We had our last ultrasound on the 27th and I am happy to report that I will be able to give childbirth a la va-jah-jah a go. The placenta has moved and Scratch Jr is in the head down position and waiting for his time.
At that appointment, which was 10 days ago, he was estimated to weigh 5lbs3oz already…which is in the 58% for weight. His head is measuring big…like 2 weeks ahead big…but so did Miss Scratch’s and she was 5 days late and her head size is currently slightly less than average…so I’m not worried. (By the way…longest sentence ever!) His stomach size is right on track and his legs are long. The ultrasound tech estimated that he’s weigh in the 7lb range when born…but be very long. We’ll see. For those that don’t remember, Miss Scratch was 8lb13oz…so I’m not hanging my hat on a 7lb baby.
This week, Scratch Jr is the size of a honeydew melon.

By week 35, Scratch Jr’s kidneys are completely developed. His liver is also beginning to produce waste. Also, his lungs are now completely developed and producing what is called surfactant, a substance that helps in the exchange of oxygen in the lungs. In fact, a majority of his growth is already done. However, baby boy’s nervous system and immune system are still maturing.
He will still put on some more weight over the next few weeks (about 1/2oz a day…or approximately 1/2lb a week). Baby boy is adding the fat that he’ll need to regulate his body temperature. But, everything else, from his toenails to the hair on his head, is fully formed. (Which reminds me of another thing from the ultrasound. I asked about his hair. I hadn’t been feeling heartburn QUITE to the extent I did with Miss Scratch and in her ultrasound it was apparent she’d have a full head of hair. So, I asked about Scratch Jr. Apparently, he does have a little…but nothing compared to what Miss Scratch had. Which doesn’t bother me too much because a) I’d rather have a bald boy than a bald girl and b)Miss Scratch lost most of her hair in the beginning anyway.)
I am constantly feeling him move. All Over. It’s quite distracting and quite uncomfortable and yet I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
If he were born now, he’d have more than a ninety-nine percent chance of surviving.
Me:

- Belly button status: It’s flat still. On a related note, Miss Scratch’s belly button is kinda an innie/outie. I think it’s the way it is because she still has a pot belly…but I’m guessing when/if she had a baby (not for another 20-30 years), her belly button will pop out. That’s my guess.
- Baby Location: Head down and all over my tummy. I feel him on my left and right sides equally. He’s taking full advantage of the space he has in there.
- Stretch Marks: Nope. Thanks mom! (I hear this is genetic).
- Pregnancy Symptoms: Uncomfortable. Is that a symptom? Can’t sleep, heartburn, achy pelvis, sciatica pains, out of breath if I stand up (lol), etc…
- Weight Gain: Honestly, I don’t know for sure as of this point. This pregnancy I did not measure myself on my own…what’s the point? According to the doctor’s office, 10 days ago I was at a total of 32lbs weight gain…which is approx. 1lb more than I was with Miss Scratch at that same point. That said…I do feel like I look different. (Whether or not I actually do I have no idea.) I FEEL like I have gained all the weight in my belly. When I see pictures of this pregnancy and the last…I feel that my face, arms, etc…were a little wider/little chubbier than they are now. So that’s good.
-Milestones: Ready to be done. :)
Things we’re doing:
- Finished registering. Woo Woo! I’ve been buying things off my registry here and there, but in a couple weeks I should receive the completion discount and be able to wrap things up.
- Major nursery stuff is done. Furniture, sound machine, humidifier, swing, etc…just need to actually decorate it and put up shelves, curtains, etc…
- Made a mobile…looks like a 5 yr old made it…don’t care…still going up in his room.
- Bought a double stroller for a smokin’ deal off of Craigslist. Woo Woo! This will come in VERY handy on my maternity leave when I’m strutting around the zoo with Miss Scratch and Scratch Jr…thanks to my sister in law.
- Need to do 1 more mobile that I’ve been seriously procrastinating and I need to do his name in wood letters. Gahh! Forgot about that one.
- Dr’s appointment next week where I’ll have a Group B Strep test and I may get checked to see where I am regarding dilation and effacement. I hope not though….that sh*t is painful! Then I believe the appointments will be weekly after that.
- Geez…is this pregnancy flying by for anyone else?? Maybe it was the holidays, maybe it was the fact that it was a surprise and I didn’t know for several weeks that I was pregnant. Who knows!
- Which reminds me….as of next Tuesday….if Scratch Jr decides to make a debut, the Doctor is not stopping him. People!!! That’s only 4 days away!!! Guess I better go stock up on some diapers, otherwise he might end up in some that are made for 23lbers. lol.
