FebWhat’s in a Name?
Dominic Jackson
That will be our little man’s name. Ya know…instead of Scratch Jr. I had a slight inkling that he would get made fun of in school if we officially named him Scratch Jr. Just a inkling though. :)
Anyway, it’s the Jewish tradition to name a child after a relative who has passed away. Now Miss Scratch’s first name begins with E…and my great-grandmother (Miss Scratch’s great-great-grandma’s name was Ethel). However, I really wanted Miss Scratch to KNOW her namesake…so we named her Middle Name after my grandmother (who is very much alive and kicking).
Dominic is named for my grandfather…who I was very close with and helped raise me when I was little and my mom was a single working mom. I have such fond memories of him, including eating hotdogs and watching wrestling (Go Jake the Snake). He passed away in early 2007…right after seeing me graduate college, which was very important to him. Anyway, his name was Donald, so we took the D to make Dominic.
Jackson is named for Scratch’s grandmother. She passed away in mid 2010. She was one of the sweetest, most welcoming woman I have ever met. When I first met her, she gave me a big hug and welcomed me into her home, her family, and her life immediately. It was so comforting. She was so generous and loving and I am so happy that our same will have a namesake of this caliber. Her name was Jacqueline.
I am so excited for our son to know who he’s name after…I know he’ll make his great-grandparents proud.
